Four County EMC Offers Basketball Scholarships

January 4th, 2013

Four County Electric Membership Corporation and North Carolina’s Touchstone Energy cooperatives are offering all-expense paid scholarships for middle-school students from across the state to attend basketball camps this summer at two of North Carolina’s largest college campuses.

Young women can apply to attend the Kellie Harper Wolfpack Basketball Academy Aug. 1-4 at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, and young men can apply to attend the Roy Williams Carolina Basketball Camp June 15-19 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Four County EMC will award scholarships to one boy and one girl and is accepting applications January 1-March 30.

“Four County  is thrilled to continue our tradition of awarding these scholarships to outstanding students,” said Gay Johnson, Director of Corporate Communications at Four County. “This program provides students with an unforgettable opportunity to work with collegiate coaches, experience life on a college campus and develop fundamental skills that will help them excel both on and off the court.”

Students who will be in sixth, seventh and eighth grade during the 2013-14 school year are eligible to apply. More information and applications, which are judged on academics, extracurricular activities and an essay, can be found at or or by contacting Gay Johnson at (888) 368-7289 or .

More than 50 students across the state will attend basketball camps this summer through the Touchstone Energy Sports Camp program, a reflection of the electric cooperatives’ commitment to community.

Four County Electric serves over 32,000 members within Bladen, Duplin, Pender, Sampson, Columbus and Onslow counties.
